Objective:
Compliance with the Act respecting the protection of personal information in the private sector, as recently amended by Bill 25.
Definition:
A Personal information is information that can be used to identify an individual, such as:
- Residential address
- Personal phone number
- Date of birth
- Social Insurance Number
- Identification number (RAMQ, driver’s license or other identification documents)
- Etc.
This list is not exhaustive.
Personal information excludes your business contact information.
The management of personal information held by the firm:
- Obtain your consent:
We will seek your consent when we need to collect, use and share personal information about you for the purposes of your file, unless we are exempt by law from doing so.
Your information may be shared, when necessary, with the following types of stakeholders:
- IT Service Providers
- Your insurer
- A decision-making body (for example, a court or disciplinary council)
- Limiting our collection:
We will only ask you for the information that is necessary for the purpose of completing your file.
- Ensuring the security and confidentiality of your information:
We ensure that the personal information collected is kept secure and that only those who may be working on your file have access to it. Your information is held electronically in a secure environment by Microsoft© for the duration of your file. Then, your information is archived in another secure environment also by Microsoft© for 7 years from the date of closure of your file (period required by the Regulation respecting accounting and standards of professional practice for lawyers, c. B-1, r. 5)
- Your rights with respect to your information:
You can ask us for the personal information we hold about you and can ask to correct it if it contains an error.
