
Geneviève Gagnon partnered with Julie Chenette in June 2008. She practiced for seven years in the Litigation and Professional Liability Group at McCarthy Tétrault where she became a partner. She was then legal counsel at the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec before joining the firm.
Ms. Gagnon practices in the fields of disciplinary and administrative law, professional liability and media law. With regards to professional law, she has developed a specific expertise in the field of healthcare where she represents professionals before disciplinary councils, administrative tribunals and superior courts.
Ms. Gagnon represents media organizations before criminal and civil courts to defend access to judicial records and open court principle. She was CBC/Radio-Canada’s representative at La Commission d’enquête sur l’octroi et la gestion des contrats publics dans l’industrie de la construction (Commission Charbonneau). She also defends journalists in defamation matters or to ensure the protection of journalistic sources.
Ms. Gagnon also pleads before the Commission d’accès à l’information. She also represents universities, particularly in the context of proceedings filed by students.
Ms. Gagnon completed her Bachelor of Law degree in 1998 at the Université de Montréal. She was called to the Quebec Bar in 1999.
